In the 1980s and 90s, prominent feminist thinkers argued that sexual preferences act as a 'mirror' for one's political preferences. As a result, they advocated for things like political lesbianism (refusing to have sex with men) and a removal of any sort of violence from the sexual interactions (even if said violence was consensual/ desired).
Over the past two decades, the feminist movement has actively fought to 'depoliticise sexual preferences', arguing that any sexual interaction is permissible provided it is consented to (and as a result, arguing that practices like BDSM, or violence as part of the role-play during sex, are permissible).
